U.S. President Donald Trump landed at Stansted Airport Tuesday evening for his second state visit to the United Kingdom, greeted by Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper and an RAF honor guard, but overshadowed by projections of his image alongside Jeffrey Epstein on Windsor Castle walls by protesters.
Trump, traveling with First Lady Melania, expressed enthusiasm for the trip, telling reporters aboard Air Force One that his relationship with King Charles is strong and the visit marks a historic honor. "Everyone's looking forward to it. You're going to have the best pictures," he said.
The itinerary includes a Wednesday morning greeting by the Prince and Princess of Wales at Windsor, a carriage procession with the Household Cavalry, a guard of honor, lunch with the royals, and a wreath-laying at Queen Elizabeth II's tomb in St. George's Chapel. A flypast by the Red Arrows and U.S.-UK F-35 jets, plus a Beating Retreat ceremony, precede a grand state banquet in St. George's Hall, where Trump and King Charles will speak.
The visit coincides with a £31 billion U.S. tech investment announcement, including £22 billion from Microsoft, and an economic deal reducing some tariffs. Trump hinted at further relief for British steel, currently at 25%, saying he was "into helping" the UK.
However, projections of Trump with Epstein – the convicted sex offender linked to him in recent scandals – on Windsor Castle drew condemnation. Thames Valley Police arrested four for suspected malicious communications.
The Epstein images, tied to ongoing U.S. probes and Mandelson's sacking as U.S. ambassador over similar ties, amplified criticism.
Trump's schedule includes a meeting with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at Chequers, potentially discussing Ukraine, trade, and Epstein fallout. Starmer emphasized the visit's importance for bilateral ties, despite domestic challenges like the Mandelson scandal.
